Latheef’s rejoining follows a trend among senior members of the Democrats returning to the MDP.
Hassan Latheef, who resigned as president of the Democrats on Friday, has officially rejoined the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
Latheef’s rejoining follows a trend among senior members of the Democrats returning to the MDP. According to the MDP, Latheef’s membership form was confirmed on Sunday.
Other senior Democrats who have recently rejoined the MDP include:
-
Hussain Amr, former Managing Director of STO and running mate for the Democrats in the last presidential election.
-
Mohamed Shifaz, a minister in the President’s Office during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih administration.
-
Ali Azim, a former Member of Parliament for Central Henveiru constituency.
Latheef, who previously served as the MDP chairperson, said on Friday that his resignation from the Democrats was a significant decision made at an important time. While speculation about his return to the MDP surfaced shortly after his resignation, Latheef did not provide a statement addressing these claims.
