Applications for land, flats to open on 4 January

According to the ministry, all applications must be submitted through the Hiyaavehi portal.

The Housing Ministry has announced that applications for land and flats under the government’s new housing policy will be accepted from 4 January to 3 March.

The ministry released the allocation rules for land and flats in the Greater Malé area and Rasmale under the Housing for All policy on Sunday.

According to the ministry, all applications must be submitted through the Hiyaavehi portal.

A total of 15,000 land plots measuring 1,250 square feet will be allocated to residents of the capital. The allocation breakdown is as follows:

  • 10,000 plots for Malé residents

  • 3,000 plots for residents of other islands living in Malé

  • 500 plots for individuals who lost land ownership due to maiming

  • 1,500 plots for individuals relocating land due to narrow streets in the city

In addition, 7,500 flats will be allocated under the flat allocation rule. These will be distributed as follows:

  • 4,000 flats for Malé residents

  • 1,500 flats for non-residents living in Malé

  • 100 flats for single parents with children under 18

  • 100 flats for persons with disabilities

  • 250 flats for newlyweds and young families

  • 50 flats for family-based taxi drivers registered in the city

  • 200 flats for family-based tourism workers in Malé

  • 100 flats for family-based judiciary employees in Malé

  • 100 flats for family-based fishermen in Malé

  • 50 flats for individuals who lost land ownership due to maiming

  • 300 flats for individuals who received units under previous housing schemes but did not receive flats as per documentation

  • 50 flats for families identified by the government as living in Malé without accommodation

  • 100 flats for police personnel

  • 100 flats for military personnel

  • 200 flats for civil service staff

A further 300 flats will be allocated to various agencies and institutions. These include the President’s Office, Parliamentary Office, Maldives Inland Revenue Authority, Local Government Authority, Judicial Service Commission, Foreign Service, Attorney General’s Office, Elections Commission, Civil Service Commission, Human Rights Commission of the Maldives, Anti-Corruption Commission, Prosecutor General’s Office, Audit Office, Maldives Monetary Authority, Pension Office, National Integrity Commission, Media and Broadcasting Commission, Family Protection Authority, Arbitration Centre, Children’s Ombudsperson Office, Institute of Chartered Accountants, Capital Market Development Authority, Employment Tribunal and the Tax Appeal Tribunal.
