Police on Sunday initiated a special police operation in the islands of Alifushi and Meedhoo, following reports of suspected sorcery activities.
The operation is part of an ongoing investigation into a case of sorcery that surfaced last month.
In a brief statement, the Maldives Police Service confirmed the operation is being conducted in response to a reported incident of sorcery.
"More information will be shared later," the police said, though they did not disclose any additional details regarding the specific individuals or locations involved in the raid.
The operation, which took place in both Alifushi and Meedhoo, saw police conducting simultaneous raids at various suspected houses on the islands. During these raids, police reportedly seized a number of items, including books and other materials allegedly linked to witchcraft practices. Some individuals were also taken into custody for questioning but have since been released without charge.
This latest operation follows a similar action conducted in HA. Kela, where police also carried out searches and seized materials in connection with witchcraft allegations. While the investigation remains ongoing, authorities have not provided further details regarding the specific nature of the charges or the individuals implicated.
