The Democrats party on Monday opened the nomination process for the vacant presidential and vice presidential positions, following the resignations of President Hassan Latheef and Vice President Mohamed Shifaz.

Both leaders have resigned from their posts and joined the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), prompting the need for elections within the party.

According to an announcement made by the Democrats, nominations for the two key positions will be accepted starting Monday. The submission window will remain open until 12 pm on Thursday.

The party has outlined that the election for both positions will take place on the 15th of next month.

In preparation for the upcoming elections, the party will release the official list of eligible voters this Thursday. This list will be open for review, with a window for any complaints to be submitted. The deadline for submitting objections to the voter list will be 12 pm on Saturday.

The Democrats have assured that they are committed to a fair and transparent electoral process, and they encourage party members to engage actively in the election process.
