Political changes won’t shake govt stability, MP Falah says
Despite this reassurance, political circles have been rife with speculation that Abdul Raheem may soon be ousted from his role as Speaker of Parliament.
PNC Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Falaah has stated that the recent dismissal of Ibrahim Faisal from his position as Minister of Tourism is a political move but does not pose a threat to the government’s stability. Faisal, the son of Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdullah, was abruptly removed from his post, fueling speculation about tensions between President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Abdul Raheem.
Rumors of a strained relationship between the two were further reinforced by Abdul Raheem himself, who admitted in an interview with Dhauru that their ties have deteriorated. However, Falaah downplayed the significance of the changes, describing them as "general political matters" rather than a major controversy.
When questioned about the potential impact of Faisal’s removal on the government, Falaah confidently dismissed concerns. "No, no. There will be no shock," he stated, reaffirming that the entire PNC parliamentary group remains aligned with President Muizzu.
Despite this reassurance, political circles have been rife with speculation that Abdul Raheem may soon be ousted from his role as Speaker of Parliament. Some members of the PNC have even suggested that while no official move has been initiated, Abdul Raheem’s removal is inevitable.
Falaah has denied any direct efforts to remove Abdul Raheem from his post, telling Mihaaru that no such initiative has been taken. However, a PNC member, speaking anonymously, claimed that President Muizzu has lost confidence in Abdul Raheem.
"The President has not officially informed him. But the President does not have confidence in Abdul Raheem. That is very clear. It does not seem that he will be kept in the post," the source stated.
