Sacked tourism minister Faisal to relocate to Fonadhoo
He confirmed that his father would remain aligned with the government.
Ibrahim Faisal, who was dismissed from his position as Minister of Tourism on Tuesday, has announced his decision to move to his native island of L. Fonadhoo.
Speaking to Atoll Times on Sunday, Faisal stated that his decision was influenced by financial considerations and family circumstances, as his eldest son is five months old. He said he consulted with his father, parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla, before making the decision.
"I will move within this month. Now the baby is only five months old. The cost of living is higher in Male. Now I will not get the salary I used to get," Faisal said.
When asked about his and his father’s political plans, Faisal said Abdul Raheem had discussed the matter with President Mohamed Muizzu. He confirmed that his father would remain aligned with the government.
"My father will be with the government. When I was dismissed, he was in Malaysia and later travelled to Maldives for discussions. He advised me to remain patient in politics," Faisal said.
Faisal stated that he is not currently registered with any political party. While he was previously a senator for the now-dissolved PPM, he confirmed that he has not joined any new political party since his dismissal.
"I am on the PPM register. I was a PPM senator. But now that the PPM has been dissolved, I am not in any party. I am not aligned with any particular government since I was dismissed. However, I have no intention of stopping political activities," he said.
Following Faisal’s dismissal, speculation arose regarding the political relationship between his father, Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla, and President Mohamed Muizzu. Abdul Raheem acknowledged tensions in an interview with Atoll Times, but confirmed that the matter has since been resolved.
