MDP parliamentary group leader, Hithadhoo South MP Ibrahim Nazil said on Wednesday that his meeting with speaker of parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla was focused on the work of the parliament for the year.

The meeting took place at the parliament Tuesday amid a deteriorating relationship between President Mohamed Muizzu and Abdul Raheem.

Nazil said he met with the speaker after receiving the agenda for the opening session of parliament. He stated that discussions covered parliamentary affairs, including the previous and upcoming sessions.

When asked whether political matters, including reports of a no-confidence motion against Abdul Raheem, were discussed, Nazil said the issue had not been officially raised with the MDP and was not part of the meeting.

The opening session of parliament is scheduled for Thursday, with President Muizzu set to deliver the presidential address. Nazil stated that the MDP parliamentary group had not yet decided on its stance regarding the session.

"The decision will be made by the group, and I will follow the majority decision. Meetings are ongoing," he said.

Meanwhile, the MDP has announced plans to hold a rally near the parliament to coincide with the sitting.
