A major theft has been reported in Fuvahmulah, where more than 130 cartons of cigarettes were stolen from the Euro Store.

The incident, which occurred on Monday night, was officially reported to the police the same evening.

According to a statement released by the Maldives Police Service, the case was reported at night, and investigations are currently underway. However, no arrests have been made, and authorities have yet to disclose further details regarding the incident.

The police have urged the public to come forward with any information that might assist in the ongoing investigation. The theft of such a large quantity of cigarettes raises concerns about organised crime and black-market sales in the region.

This is not the first time a large quantity of cigarettes has gone missing in the Maldives. In December last year, a significant theft took place in a bonded warehouse in Male, where 34,500 cartons of cigarettes were stolen. The estimated value of the stolen goods exceeded MVR 7 million.

Authorities continue to investigate both cases, and there is speculation about whether these incidents could be linked.
