The ruling Progressive National Congress (PNC) has transferred party management responsibilities from its chairman, parliamentary speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla, to parliamentary group leader Ibrahim Falah.
A source within the PNC confirmed the decision but did not provide a reason for the leadership change. The party has not issued an official statement on the matter.
According to the PNC charter, the chairman holds the highest position after the party president and is responsible for managing the party in line with its constitution and policies under the president’s guidance.
The leadership shift follows reports of internal disagreements involving PNC leader and President Mohamed Muizzu and Abdul Raheem. Tensions between the two escalated after the dismissal of Abdul Raheem's son, Ibrahim Faisal, as Minister of Tourism in late January. At the time, Abdul Raheem stated that if relations between him and the president were strong, the removal would not have occurred.
Following Faisal’s dismissal, Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) Managing Director Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim was also removed from his position last month.
