The dilapidated Carnival Stage, located in the northern part of Male, has been demolished, and plans are in place for the construction of a new stage in its place.

The once vibrant venue, which has hosted a variety of political meetings, music performances, and other events, had fallen into disrepair, prompting the need for an upgrade.

In a social media post on Thursday, the Male City Council announced that the contract for the construction of the new stage has been awarded to UH Investment. The contract outlines that the new stage is to be completed by July of this year.

Although the original post from the city council did not include the financial details, when asked for clarification, the media officer of the agency confirmed that the contract had been awarded for a total of MVR 4.8 million.

The carnival area has been a central space for political parties to hold their meetings and a popular venue for various public events. The stage's current state of disrepair had limited its functionality, making the demolition and planned reconstruction a necessary step to preserve its role as a key location for public gatherings.
