The search operation for Ali Mushfiq, 25, of L. Maavah, is ongoing following the sinking of a cargo vessel that caught fire on Wednesday night.
The vessel, known as the Holhudhoo Boat, caught fire at 9:07 p.m. while travelling between Th. Hirilandhoo and Malé. It later sank in the early hours of Thursday, at around 2:07 a.m.
There were 18 individuals on board at the time of the incident, including 11 Indian nationals and seven other foreign nationals. Mushfiq is the only person who remains unaccounted for.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard has been conducting a search operation for the past 24 hours. According to MNDF, the operation has covered a surface area of 92.42 square nautical miles. Additionally, dive teams have searched an estimated 65,100 acres underwater.
The MNDF confirmed that efforts to locate Mushfiq are ongoing.
