The Ministry of Education on Monday awarded three government-owned companies contracts to complete unfinished construction work at 18 schools located in various atolls.
The announcement was made on the same day the new academic year began.
The ministry signed agreements with Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Fenaka Corporation, and Road Development Corporation (RDC).
Minister of Education Dr Ismail Shafeeu signed the agreements on behalf of the Ministry, while the respective Managing Directors signed on behalf of each company.
Under the agreements, MTCC will undertake work in 15 islands, which includes:

Construction of classrooms and multipurpose halls in Sh. Bileiyfahi, AA. Mathiveri, GDh. Vaadhoo, and K. Gulhi.

Construction of additional classrooms in HA. Molhadhoo, HDh. Neykurendhoo, R. Dhuvaafaru, B. Kudarikilu, Th. Ghaadhiffushi, HA. Maarandhoo, and L. Maavah.

Construction of multipurpose halls in Dh. Nolhivaram, R. Innamaadhoo, Th. Madifushi, and HDh. Naavaidhoo.
RDC has been assigned to complete school works in AA. Maalhos and ADh. Fenfushi.
Fenaka will be responsible for completing the school in M. Veyvah.
According to the ministry, the allocation of work to state-owned enterprises is intended to support the delivery of educational infrastructure across the country, with the aim of ensuring equal access to schooling facilities.
