The Edexcel A-Level examination will be held in May and June in the Maldives, with the opportunity limited to private candidates, the Ministry of Education said on Monday.

The May/June Edexcel examination was discontinued in the Maldives six years ago. Since then, students seeking to sit the examination during that session have been required to travel overseas and take the examination independently.

The Ministry of Education said that previous data show students travelling abroad for the examination incur costs of at least MVR 30,000 for travel and accommodation.

To address this, the ministry said the May/June Edexcel examination will be conducted in the Maldives for private candidates.

The ministry added that school candidates will continue to sit the Edexcel A-Level examination during the October and November session.
