Schools close for first-term break as students begin 16-day holiday

Schools across the Maldives closed for the first-term break on Thursday, with students beginning a 16-day holiday, including weekends.
Students in most schools received their first-term report books before the end of classes.
According to the academic calendar, schools will reopen on 2 August.
The calendar provides for a total of 199 school days during the current academic year.
The next major examinations will be the O-Level and A-Level examinations, scheduled for October and November.
Following the examination period, schools will close for the annual end-of-year holiday from 18 December to 12 January.
The next academic year is scheduled to begin on 17 January.
