The complaints were submitted by the deadline, which expired on Tuesday.
The Ministry of Housing has confirmed it received a total of 8,602 complaints regarding the revised list of recipients under the Gedhoruveriya housing scheme.
The complaints were submitted by the deadline, which expired on Tuesday.
The Gedhoruveriya scheme, introduced during the previous administration, involves the construction of 4,000 housing units in Hulhumalé by two Indian companies. The revised list of eligible recipients was published in February.
According to the Housing Ministry, complaints were received through multiple channels:
-
5,236 complaints through the official portal
-
2,840 complaints via email
-
526 complaints through letters
The ministry stated that complaints submitted via the portal were primarily from individuals who were not included in the recipient list. Complaints received by email and post included concerns from both applicants and members of the public.
Following the close of the complaint submission period, the ministry has announced that priority will be given to investigating the issues raised.
In its verification process so far, the ministry has declared 2,695 applications ineligible and removed 424 names from the recipient list. A significant number of those found ineligible were applicants who did not meet the documentation requirements to prove they had resided in Malé for 15 years.
Further details shared by the ministry include:
-
4,939 applications were reviewed
-
From the three-room category, 1,423 applicants were deemed eligible with scores above 75 points out of 3,721
-
In the two-room category, 397 applicants scored above 73 points out of 1,218
The ministry has not yet announced when a final list will be published or when the allocation process will be completed.
