Applications open for tobacco license registration under new rule
Each licence will be valid for a period of five years upon payment of the applicable fee.
The Ministry of Health has opened the opportunity to apply for licences and registration of newly imported tobacco products, in line with the recently enacted Tobacco Control Regulations.
According to an announcement issued by the ministry on Thursday, four types of licences are now open for application. Each licence will be valid for a period of five years upon payment of the applicable fee.
The four types of licences and their respective fees are as follows:

Licence to sell tobacco products, either individually or in bulk: MVR 5,000

Tobacco import licence: MVR 10,000

Tobacco re-export licence: MVR 10,000

Registration of a new variety of tobacco: MVR 10,000
The ministry also stated that licence holders must renew their licences at least 60 days prior to the end of the five-year validity period.
