
NSPA disburses over MVR 25 million for therapy support
In 2024, the NSPA spent a total of MVR 96.7 million on 1,087 individuals under the same programme:
The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has disbursed over MVR 25 million for therapeutic treatment support to persons with disabilities as of March this year, according to official data.
The information was shared in a letter sent to MP Ibrahim Mohamed in response to a letter to NSPA CEO Heena Waleed on the 1st of this month. The MP requested details on the number of children with disabilities registered with the agency and the number of those residing abroad.
According to the letter:

A total of 675 individuals listed in the register of persons with disabilities received assistance through the therapeutic treatment assistance programme by March 2025.

The total expenditure for these individuals stood at MVR 25.4 million.
Of this amount:

MVR 24.8 million was spent on children under the age of 18.

30 children residing overseas received support totalling MVR 1.2 million.
In 2024, the NSPA spent a total of MVR 96.7 million on 1,087 individuals under the same programme:

MVR 94 million was allocated for 1,031 children under 18.

MVR 4.2 million was disbursed for 54 children living abroad.
Parents of persons with disabilities have submitted a petition to Parliament, calling for an inquiry into reported issues relating to access to therapy and the provision of financial, physical, and psychological support from the NSPA.
