President urges educated citizens to address social challenges
He noted that if all sectors of society worked together with a shared objective, it would be possible to build a community based on shared values.
President Mohamed Muizzu said on Saturday that individuals with knowledge have a responsibility to help protect society from harmful social issues.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM), the President stated that it is the responsibility of all individuals to pursue education in their chosen fields. He emphasised that reform in the country must come from within, not through external efforts.
"How can a nation reform if there is no intention to do so?" President Muizzu asked. He referred to the Qur'an, stating it provides guidance on self-reform.
"This is not something others will come and do for us. It must be the collective resolve of all of us. Parents must take responsibility to guide their children towards that path through consistent effort," he said.
The President added that institutions such as IUM also have a role in continuing to produce students who can contribute to society.
He noted that if all sectors of society worked together with a shared objective, it would be possible to build a community based on shared values.
The President also said that it is the duty of the educated population to uphold and promote the practices of a society that adheres fully to Islamic principles, such as those followed in the Maldives.
“If we do not fulfil this responsibility, we will be held accountable,” he said.
President Muizzu added that knowledge is a trust from Allah and must be used with purpose. "It is not optional. If you do not use it properly, there will be consequences when you are questioned."
He concluded by highlighting the importance of aligning family and workplace environments with Islamic values.
