
Woman gave statement over minors rape; faces defamation claim
After a lengthy delay, hearings in the defamation case resumed in the Civil Court last month, with at least one hearing held recently.

Sources confirmed that Yumnu gave her statement during investigations into a case from 2021, in which an 18-year-old male student at the Centre for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) was accused of sexually assaulting 15 children, including relatives. Yumnu, then a student at CHSE, was among those who came forward during the investigation.
It has been reported that Yumnu submitted her statement to the police anonymously, or as a whistleblower. Despite this, sources allege that the accused later became aware that Yumnu had given a statement. It is further alleged that police officers with family ties to the accused leaked this information.
In 2022, the accused filed a defamation suit against Yumnu in the Civil Court. Sources have also claimed that the accused had made threats against her, although it is unclear whether any such threats were officially reported to police.
The defamation claim reportedly cited a social media post by an individual alleged to be Yumnu as part of the defence, although this connection has not been independently verified.
