Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has launched a new initiative aimed at easing the financial burden on households and businesses with long-standing unpaid water bills.
In a statement released Thursday, the company announced that penalties on unpaid water bills dated up to December 31, 2024 will be completely waived for those who make payments during a specific one-month window.
Customers who pay their outstanding bills between December 1 and December 31, 2025, will be eligible to benefit from the penalty waiver, according to the statement.
The company, which ran a similar programme last year, is also offering instalment payment plans to further support customers. Under this option, customers can enter into a formal agreement to pay their arrears in monthly instalments. Penalties will be waived once payment is completed as per the agreed terms.
“All customers are advised to take advantage of this opportunity to pay their outstanding bills and maintain regular payments in the future,” the MWSC urged in its announcement.
