The Gulhifalhu Citizens Association has refuted government claims that recent changes to the Gulhifalhu land allocation plan were made after discussions with them.
The association, which represents those granted land under the Binveriya scheme, said they were not consulted before the revisions were officially published.
Dr Abdulla Muththalib, speaking on behalf of the government, stated that the updated land use plan was shared with the association prior to its gazetting. He also claimed the changes were aimed at ensuring timely land registration for recipients and making land distribution more equitable from the newly reclaimed areas.
However, the association responded on platform X, stating, “We weren’t consulted. The land use plan was gazetted and that’s the end of it. We don’t bear blame or take credit for this.”
They emphasised that they were only informed of the changes after they were finalised.
The Binveriya scheme was originally introduced in August 2023 under President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration. It was revised in October 2024 due to concerns over the original structure and re-amended in a government gazette just yesterday. The latest update is aimed at reallocating land from the Giraavaru Falhu to Gulhifalhu, affecting 1,347 recipients.
