Maldives condemns Gaza assault; calls for immediate ceasefire

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has strongly condemned the continued targeting of innocent civilians by Israel in Gaza, as the genocidal assault by Israel intensifies.
In a post shared on X, the President called on the international community to take decisive and immediate action to halt the escalation of violence and the immediate cessation of hostilities.
He reiterated the call for effective measures to protect civilian lives, in accordance with international legal and moral obligations, and stressed the need to hold Israel accountable for its actions.
In a separate statement, the foreign ministry strongly condemned the continued genocidal aggression carried out by Israeli forces against innocent civilians in Gaza, as Israel intensifies its attack.
"The Maldives calls on the international community to take immediate action to hold Israel accountable to the numerous violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law," the statement read.
"The Maldives reiterates its unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital."
