The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has awarded the Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) the contract to develop nature parks in the protected areas of HDh. Keylakunu and Sh. Farukolhu.
The initiative is part of the government’s pledge to establish nature parks in every atoll to expand tourism across the country.
The agreement was signed Tuesday between the Ministry and MTDC. According to the Ministry, the project will be implemented in four phases and is expected to be completed within one year.
MTDC will undertake the project based on technical guidance from the Ministry of Tourism.
“The project will be carried out in accordance with the Natural Protected Areas Regulation and other relevant regulations,” the Ministry said in a statement.
The Ministry also stated that the project is expected to contribute to tourism development in the northern regions and support the rural economy.
