Media council vote reopened after withdrawals
In a gazette announcement released today, the ministry confirmed that all three posts are now open for re-nomination.
The Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts has reopened the nomination process for the Maldives Media Council (MMC) by-election after two candidates vying for media representative positions withdrew their nominations.
The by-election aims to fill two vacancies for media representatives and one for a private member. In a gazette announcement released Tuesday, the ministry confirmed that all three posts are now open for re-nomination.
According to the statement:
-
Initially, four candidates were in the running for the two media seats.
-
Two of those candidates have withdrawn, prompting the re-opening.
-
As a result, nominations for all three posts — the two media representative seats and the private member seat — are being accepted again.
-
The deadline to apply is next Tuesday at 2 p.m.
Candidates who have already submitted their applications are not required to reapply. New applicants can submit their forms via email to media@youth.gov.mv.
This decision comes after several stages of the election had already concluded. The ministry recently released a provisional voter list and had opened a window for complaints before finalizing the permanent list.
