Raud in woman’s fall probe released
Raud was the individual present with Yumnu on the stairs at the time of the incident.
Raud Ahmed Zilal, who was arrested in relation to the fall of Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed, has been released from custody following a High Court application challenging the arrest warrant.
Yumnu was found on the roof of a warehouse after falling from the ninth floor of a building in H. Fentenoiy house on Buruzumagu. Raud was the individual present with Yumnu on the stairs at the time of the incident.
Raud was taken into custody on 25 April following public criticism of the police investigation, despite initial police statements indicating no evidence of his involvement. Since then, his detention was reviewed three times by the Criminal Court, which upheld the remand orders.
Raud was released early Thursday morning after his legal team filed an application in the High Court to quash the arrest warrant. Following his release, the application was withdrawn. Ongoing remand hearings in the Criminal Court are being held behind closed doors.
Yumnu’s family recently held a press conference, stating that Yumnu had mentioned that four other individuals, in addition to Raud, were present in the house at the time of the incident. According to the family, Yumnu had gone to the location at the invitation of Yusuf Yassar Abdul Gafoor, who is currently under a house movement restriction.
As of now, no further arrests have been made in connection with the case. Investigations are ongoing.
