The dance group Hiyala from N. Manadhoo has announced plans to take legal action against the state broadcaster, Television Maldives (TVM), for airing one of its songs without permission.

The group, known for releasing songs during Eid and national celebrations, had released a song titled Boamathivanee on its YouTube channel on Eid day. The group stated that the song, inspired by 1990s music, was published as a gift to the community.

In a statement released by the group Monday, it alleged that TVM broadcast the song without seeking or obtaining permission.

"We did not give this song to TVM or any other channel for broadcast," the group said. It added that the incident represents not only a violation of the group’s rights, but also raises ethical concerns.

The group stated that it is considering legal options in response to the unauthorised broadcast.

TVM has not responded to requests for comment.
