MTCC secures shore protection projects for Maavah, Hangaameedhoo

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded two shore protection contracts for L. Maavah and ADh. Hangaameedhoo, with a combined value of MVR 135.33 million.
The contracts were signed on Tuesday at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Construction. The agreements were signed by State Minister at the Ministry of Construction Ibrahim Nazeem and MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudy.
The project in Maavah, valued at MVR 89.13 million, is to be completed within 540 days. It includes:

Placement of 166,400 cubic metres of course sand

Placement of 55,500 cubic metres of grain sand

Deepening of a 7,500 cubic metre swimming area

Installation of a 524-metre rock revetment

Installation of a 2,024-metre geobag revetment

Construction of a 180-metre rock groyne

Construction of a 260-metre geobag groyne
According to MTCC, the project aims to address ongoing coastal erosion and flooding concerns in Maavah, which has a population of 2,200.
The project in Hangaameedhoo, valued at MVR 46.2 million, is scheduled for completion within 240 days. It includes:

Placement of 14,322.75 cubic metres of course sand

Placement of 14,322.75 cubic metres of grain sand

Construction of a 455-metre outer breakwater

Construction of a 440-metre rock groyne
MTCC stated that erosion has been a persistent issue for Hangaameedhoo, which has a population of approximately 760. The company noted that the project is expected to address the erosion issue and restore the beach area.
