
Applications open for public representative on JSC
Dr Aminath Ummu Kulsum, appointed by the Parliament as the public representative on the Commission, currently holds the position.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has opened applications for the position of Commission Member representing the public, as the current term of the sitting member nears completion.
Dr Aminath Ummu Kulsum, appointed by the Parliament as the public representative on the Commission, currently holds the position. She was appointed on 6 August and her five-year term is set to expire in August this year.
In accordance with the rules governing the JSC, a person appointed to the Commission as the public representative cannot be reappointed after completing a full term. Parliament is responsible for making the appointment.
Applications for the position will remain open until 3 July.
Eligibility criteria for applicants include:

Maldivian citizenship

Minimum age of 30 years

No convictions for offences under Islamic law, fraud, or bribery

Not holding an elected political office

Not being a member of a political party or actively involved in party activities
The JSC is responsible for oversight of the judiciary, including the appointment, transfer, and disciplinary proceedings of judges. The Commission consists of members appointed from various state institutions, including one member representing the public.
