Parliament approves Zammath for Broadcasting Commission
No members voted against the appointment, and some members of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) supported the decision.
Parliament on Monday approved the appointment of Zammath Ahmed Waheed, a former journalist at VTV, to the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom).
She will fill the vacancy created following the expiration of Aminath Amina’s five-year term, which concluded last Friday.
The Independent Institutions Committee of Parliament had shortlisted three candidates for the position, with Zammath receiving the highest score among them. The list was submitted by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
The committee awarded Zammath 89 per cent, followed by former PSM Managing Director Zeena Zahir with 85 per cent, and Aeonews founder Shimla Ahmed with 77 per cent.
The committee’s report recommending Zammath’s appointment was passed with 56 votes in favour during Monday’s sitting. No members voted against the appointment, and some members of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) supported the decision.
Following the approval of Zammath’s name, the committee did not hold a separate vote on the remaining candidates.
