Ex-Broadcom VP Fazeen charged in sexual assault case
Prosecutor General’s Office spokesperson Ahmed Shafeeu said two charges have been brought against Fazeen under the Penal Code.
Former vice-president of the now dissolved Maldives Broadcasting Commission, Mohamed Fazeen, has been charged in connection with an alleged sexual assault involving an employee of the commission.
The Prosecutor General’s Office said on Wednesday that charges were filed against Fazeen on Sunday.
Prosecutor General’s Office spokesperson Ahmed Shafeeu said two charges have been brought against Fazeen under the Penal Code. These include a charge of sexual assault and a charge of assault.
Fazeen resigned from his post in March after the allegation became public and the People’s Majlis initiated impeachment proceedings against him.
Fazeen has denied the charges. His legal team said there is no evidence linking him to the allegations, stating that the case is based on findings by an internal commission committee, the Independent Institutions Committee, and the police.
Fazeen was appointed as a member of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission on 7 March 2021. He was appointed vice-president of the commission on 19 January 2023.
