Man jailed for 18 years over sexual assault case

A man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for sexually assaulting a man with special needs.
Abdulla Waheed Moosa, 58, of Funaadu Navaa in Fuvahmulah, was convicted of sexual offences. The court delivered its ruling on Wednesday under the Special Procedures Against Child Sexual Offenders Act.
The conviction relates to charges filed against Abdulla Waheed in connection with the case. The court found him guilty on Tuesday and imposed a total sentence of 18 years’ imprisonment.
The period of one year, seven months and nine days already spent in custody will be deducted from the sentence. As a result, he is to serve 16 years, four months and 21 days in prison.
