Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure announced that the area will remain closed until 25 July.
Republic Square has been closed to the public in preparation for Independence Day celebrations.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure announced that the area will remain closed until 25 July.
According to the ministry, the square has been temporarily closed to carry out repair and decoration work related to the upcoming national celebrations.
Republic Square is a commonly frequented location in Malé, especially on weekends by residents and expatriates. The area is also popular among families during the evenings.
The square is often used for state functions and ceremonial events. It was the site of the swearing-in ceremony of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in 2023.
Several activities are scheduled as part of the events marking the 60th anniversary of Maldives’ independence.
