A 65-year-old man was killed in an incident reported on Sunday in AA. Maalhos.
The police confirmed that the man, identified as Abdul Rahman Adam of Orchidmaage, was brought to the Maalhos Health Centre with serious injuries at approximately 1:50 a.m. He was pronounced dead at 2:30 a.m.
According to a local resident, Abdul Rahman was attacked while he was asleep in his home. The resident said the man had sustained injuries to the back of his head, and visible signs of trauma were observed at the scene.
The weapon used in the attack is believed to be a heavy object, possibly a hammer. Police have not confirmed the specific weapon involved.
Locals stated that Abdul Rahman and his wife were the only occupants of the residence at the time. They were reportedly sleeping in separate rooms when the incident occurred.
Some island residents said Abdul Rahman was previously associated with alleged practices of witchcraft. The couple's children do not reside in the island.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the case.
