Police have forwarded the case of Mohamed Ibrahim, 29, to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) in connection with the killing of Moosa Ibrahim in L. Maavah.
Moosa, also 29, died on 28 July following a fight in the island. He was taken to hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
According to police, Mohamed Ibrahim surrendered on the same day and has since remained in custody pending trial. A knife believed to have been used in the incident was also recovered.
Police confirmed on Wednesday that the case was submitted to the PGO on Tuesday and has been accepted for review.
Residents of Maavah said the altercation took place in the morning between the two men, both of whom were known locally. Witnesses said Moosa was attacked with a knife that struck his neck.
Community members also claimed that both men had prior involvement in crime and that disputes linked to drugs may have been a factor. Mohamed Ibrahim, who previously lived in Maavah after marrying a local, continues to visit the island despite being divorced.
