Police have not yet identified or arrested a suspect in the fatal stabbing of 65-year-old Abdul Rahman Adam, who was attacked while asleep at his home in AA. Maalhos three days ago.

The incident has caused unrest in the small community, with residents expressing concern about safety and the lack of answers in the ongoing investigation.

“There was no compassion when someone was struck in the head and killed,” said a middle-aged resident of the island who lived close to Abdul Rahman’s home. “Such a person may still be on this island. I haven’t slept properly for two nights.”

According to the man, he and Abdul Rahman were friends who frequently went fishing together and played cards in the yard. He said Abdul Rahman had never expressed that he was in conflict with anyone or under any threat.

The island of Maalhos is sparsely populated, with many residents having relocated to Malé. Those who remain are closely connected, and the community reports few instances of disputes or confrontations among neighbours or youth.

As a result, there is growing speculation within the community. Some residents believe the perpetrator may be from within the island, while others suspect someone from outside may have entered and committed the crime. Police have confirmed they are exploring both possibilities.

A search operation was carried out on Tuesday in the southeastern area of the island, but no significant developments have been reported. Police say questioning of potential witnesses and individuals of interest is ongoing.

“The fact that the person responsible has not been found yet is very distressing,” said a young man from the island. “It’s frightening and deeply upsetting.”

Abdul Rahman died while receiving treatment for head injuries at the island’s health centre. Police have stated that the investigation remains active and no arrests have been made at this stage.
