The Criminal Court on Sunday reaffirmed the conviction of Mohamed Samah for the intentional homicide of Police Sergeant Adam Haleem, who was stabbed in 2012 while reporting for duty in K Kaashidhoo.

The incident took place on 23 July 2012. The accused, Mohamed Samah of Suvaasaage, K Kaashidhoo, was previously convicted during earlier proceedings.

According to the case record, the Criminal Court initially sentenced Samah to death in 2013. The High Court upheld the verdict on 30 September 2020.

On 23 September 2024, the Supreme Court ordered a retrial, stating that the accused should be given the opportunity to present claims that his confession had been obtained under duress.

Following the ruling, the Criminal Court ordered on 31 October 2024 that Samah be held in custody pending the outcome of the retrial.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Prosecutor General’s Office confirmed that the Criminal Court has once again found Samah guilty of intentional homicide.

The case will now proceed to the sentencing stage. The court is scheduled to hear from the legal heirs of Adam Haleem to determine the sentence.

The hearing is set to take place at the Criminal Court on Thursday.
