2 arrested after armed robbery, assault on police in Male’
Both individuals have been remanded in custody for five days while investigations continue into the robbery, assault, and obstruction of police duties.
Two individuals have been arrested following an incident in which a man was threatened with a sharp object and robbed, and police officers attending the scene were later assaulted.
According to Maldives Police Service, the incident took place around 12:00 a.m. on Saturday. The victim was allegedly threatened and forced to transfer MVR 200 — the amount available in his account — to the suspects.
Acting on a tip-off, police located the two suspects at a house in the area. Officers attempting to make the arrest were confronted and attacked by the suspects. Police said force was used to detain the individuals due to the resistance encountered during the operation.
The altercation resulted in injuries to both suspects and one police officer. All three received medical treatment.
