President Mohamed Muizzu has stated that residents of the islands are presenting a long list of needs due to the lack of fulfilment in previous years.
Speaking in Noonu Atoll’s Lhohi on Thursday as part of his ongoing atoll visit, the President said there is no issue with the length of the list shared by the community.
“At the meeting with institutional heads, I was informed that the list may be long. That is not a problem. It indicates that previous administrations did not address these matters sufficiently,” President Muizzu said.
He added that it is now the responsibility of the current administration to address these concerns thoroughly. “This government aims to reduce the length of the list of Lhohi’s residents. We plan to complete the items together,” he said.
The President also pledged several development projects for Lhohi, including:
-
Expansion of the school in terms of space and facilities
-
Construction of a ring road to support tourism
-
Development of the island’s surf point to host international tournaments
-
Improvements to the quality and services of the health centre
-
Establishment of a children’s park
President Muizzu said he would return to the island upon the completion of these projects to mark their conclusion.
