President attends flag-hoisting to mark 60th Independence Day
In addition to the hoisting of the flag, a special prayer was recited to mark the significance of the occasion, during the ceremony.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed attended the special flag-hoisting ceremony held Saturday morning to commemorate the 60th Independence Day of the Maldives.
The ceremony took place at Republic Square at 6:00 a.m.
They were accompanied by Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef and senior government officials.
Upon their arrival at Republic Square, the President and First Lady were welcomed by Minister of Defence, Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon and Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, Adam Naseer Ibrahim.
In addition to the hoisting of the flag, a special prayer was recited to mark the significance of the occasion, during the ceremony.
The ceremony concluded with the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) military band performing the Maldives’ national anthem.
Independence Day is celebrated annually on July 26th, commemorating the day the Maldives gained full independence from the British Protectorate in 1965.
