Velana International Airport marked the official opening of its new terminal with a Guinness World Record for the most venues performing a simultaneous choreographed fireworks display.
The record-setting event was organised by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and conducted across several locations, including Malé, Hulhumalé and Villimalé. All fireworks were launched simultaneously at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday.
A Guinness World Records adjudicator was present on site to officially verify the attempt.
The coordinated fireworks display concluded the inauguration ceremony of the new terminal, which was attended by government officials, aviation stakeholders, and invited guests.
MACL noted that the record attempt formed part of the broader celebrations to commemorate the terminal’s opening and was intended to reflect the scale of the project.
The new terminal is designed to accommodate increased passenger volumes and includes expanded infrastructure and updated operational features to support the ongoing development of the Maldives’ aviation and tourism sectors.
