Housing Development Corporation (HDC) on Sunday released the provisional list of winning applicants for the Vinares flats in Hulhumale Phase II. According to the corporation, most of the applicants who applied for the flats did not meet the eligibility criteria.

On 20 June 2018, the flats were completed by China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) in Hulhumale Phase II, commissioned during former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's administration. On 18 July, HDC opened applications for purchase of the flats.

Under the project, 100 housing units have been earmarked for those who have not been registered in Male for more than 15 years and those who have been living in the city for more than 15 years without registration. Here are some of the conditions:

  • Prior to submission of application, the applicant should not have entered into an agreement to purchase a private flat or land measuring more than 600 square feet in the city and/or started paying any dues

  • In case of non-payment of dues under the agreement, the flat allotted by the Vinares project will be withdrawn

  • No 600 square feet or more land acquired for living in Male should have been sold in the last three years

  • Should not have any housing provided by government housing projects in the past

  • Those earning more than MVR 61,000 per month will not be able to participate

  • The main applicant should be a first-time buyer of an apartment in Male (he or she should not own a flat, apartment or more than 600 square feet of land in the city)

According to the list released by HDC on Sunday, most of the applicants who applied for the purchase of Vinares flats did not meet the eligibility criteria.

  • A total of 1,413 applications made

  • Of these, 723 met the criteria

  • Of those who have been living in the city for more than 15 years without registration, only 475 met the criteria

  • Of those who have been registered for 15 years in Male, only 248 met the criteria

Releasing the provisional list, HDC said in a statement that the corporation will continue to assess the financial capabilities of the eligible candidates.

"The corporation will share information with them regarding the financial capability of the eligible applicants in the published list. Further, those who have applied with more than one form as the main applicant can proceed with only one form," the statement said.

HDC said they will be contacting those who meet the criteria to clarify the information given in the application forms. However, the company has made it clear that it will not make any communication through SMS.

The corporation has also opened for people to file complaints regarding the list through the MyHulhumale Housing Portal.

"We would like to inform that the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure will respond to the complaints through this portal," HDC said in a statement.
