New date for completion of Vinares flats: April 2023

The corporation said it is working to make the list permanent and publish it by February 2023.

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) revealed on Sunday that the Vinares flats being developed in Hulhumale are expected to be completed by April 2023.

HDC held a press conference on Sunday and released the provisional list of eligible applicants from among those who had applied for the purchase of the Vinares flat. 

Vinares project:

  • 10 towers of 11-13 storeys 

  • A total of 1,344 apartments

  • All three-room apartments

  • Apartments are priced between MVR 2.5-3 million

HDC Managing Director Ahmed Athif said that the finishing work of the flats is currently underway. Hence, he predicted that the work would be completed by April next year.

"We are expecting the project to be completed by April next year. The finishing work is going on," Athif said.

However, HDC had earlier said that people will be able to access these apartments this year.

Athif said that when the list of eligible applicants for the project was released, the entire process had gained a lot of confidence from the people. The main aim is to maintain that trust, he said. He pointed out that those in the list that did not meet the eligibility criteria were allowed to file complaints.

Under the project, 100 housing units have been earmarked for those who have been registered in Male' city for less than 15 years and those who have been living in the city for more than 15 years without registration. According to the provisional list released by HDC, most of the applicants did not meet the eligibility criteria. Thus:

  • A total of 1,413 applications made

  • Of these, 723 met the criteria

  • Of those who have been living in the city for more than 15 years without registration, only 475 met the criteria 

  • Of those who have been registered for 15 years in Male, only 248 met the criteria 

The corporation said it is working to make the list permanent and publish it by February 2023.
