The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a warning of rough weather expected to affect the country over a five-day period starting Monday.
In a statement released Saturday, the MET Office advised the public to remain cautious as the southwest monsoon is expected to intensify during this period.
According to the forecast, strong winds and rough seas are expected across the country. Wind speeds are expected to range between 13 and 23 miles per hour generally, with gusts reaching 40 to 45 miles per hour in storm clouds. Rain is also expected in some areas.
The MET Office urged residents, travellers, and seafarers to take necessary precautions to avoid risks associated with strong winds and heavy rainfall.
As many people have travelled out of Malé for the Eid holidays and government offices are set to reopen on Tuesday, a significant number of people are expected to return on Monday. The MET Office’s advisory is intended to help ensure public safety during this period of increased travel.
