Electrocuted teen in L. Gan taken off ventilator

The hospital said he remains under medical care and has not yet been discharged.

A 14-year-old boy who was hospitalised after being electrocuted in L. Gan has been taken off ventilator support, according to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

The teenager was injured late on Tuesday night after coming into contact with a power cable while assisting with community preparations for Eid celebrations.

He was initially treated at Gan Regional Hospital. However, after his condition worsened, he was transferred to Malé on Wednesday for further treatment.

IGMH confirmed on Saturday that the boy was taken off the ventilator on Friday afternoon.

The hospital said he remains under medical care and has not yet been discharged.

Police were informed of the incident on Tuesday night and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the electrocution.

No further details regarding the boy’s condition have been released.
