Urbanco said on Saturday that a list being circulated on social media claiming that flats have been allotted to the company’s board members and top management is fake and said that no flat has been distributed to any employee.
A Twitter account named 'Hassan Kurusee' on Thursday released a list containing the names of 34 employees of Urbanco, including board members and other senior officials, alleging that the company was planning to distribute flats to those personnel.
Urbanco, however, denied this in a statement on Saturday.
According to the statement, a memo was issued to all employees on Thursday to sell flats it had received from mixed residential projects being constructed by private developers in Hulhumale to its employees.
The flats were received under the agreement in lieu of the value of the land allotted to the companies from four housing projects undertaken by private contractors in Hulhumale, the statement said.
The company said:
-
The 34 flats remain unsold when the company initially opened for sale under the staff housing scheme launched last year
-
A year later, the flats were reopened to application because there were many employees who were still not eligible under the scheme
-
Besides, since these lands were allotted on commercial basis, the value of the lands should be equalised
"This fake news and information is being circulated to tarnish the reputation of the company and distorts facts," the company said.
Urbanco added that more than 800 employees were eligible to buy the 34 units that were open for sale. The flats will be sold through a portal and under an established policy, it said.
Urbanco's statement, however, did not elaborate on the policy. It did not say whether the company's board members could apply for the flat or not.
"Projects in Hulhumale, especially those related to the public, have been designed to be as transparent as possible and in accordance with established rules and regulations," the statement said.
"The corporation will not indulge in any act that would infringe upon any rights of the people or violate their rights."
