Hulhumale police have launched a probe into allegations that one of the shareholders of the company that is building the K-Park apartment complex was involved in the fraudulent sale of apartments, and have asked possible victims of the scam to come forward.
A case was registered on Tuesday in which Hanbo Maldives, which runs the K-Park project, was used to fraudulently sell the flats by its minority shareholder Hassan Mamdooh, at throwaway prices. In a statement issued on the same day, the company said it had filed a police complaint seeking a criminal probe into the matter.

Hanbo Maldives has alleged that Mamdooh and another person took money from several people through a huge fraud.

This was done by forging the signature of Managing Director Jin Shi Hu, who holds 95% stake in the company, according to Hanbo
While Hanbo Maldives filed a police complaint seeking a thorough investigation into the incident, Urbanco on Friday also filed a police complaint seeking a thorough investigation into the matter.
A press release issued by the police on Saturday evening said that an investigation has been initiated and is underway.
"As per the agreement signed between Hanbo Company Pvt Ltd and Urbanco (Housing Development Corporation), the apartments of K-Park Residences being constructed in Hulhumale are being fraudulently sold to various people using forged documents made in the name of Hanbo Company." the statement said.
The police have also asked those who have purchased apartments from K-Park residences to contact the economic offences department number 9790048 if they have any information.
Not long after Hanbo Maldives levelled serious allegations against its minority shareholder Mamdhooh on Tuesday, Hambo Tech Korea, the parent company that runs the K-Park project, also issued a statement.
Hambo Tech Korea has pledged to protect the rights and interests of those who have purchased flats.
"We are prioritising the completion of the project at the earliest," the company said in the statement.
Mamdooh's passport has also been impounded following a court order in connection with the case.
