
Man arrested for theft from parked vehicles in Hulhumale
The suspect is believed to have opened nine cars and one pickup truck, taking various items from inside.
A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of stealing from multiple vehicles parked in Hulhumale, according to Maldives Police Service.
The suspect, identified as Abdul Rahman Hussain, was arrested early Monday night near the parking area of the Hulhumale POLCO Flats.
In a statement published on the police website, authorities stated that officers on patrol noticed the suspect behaving suspiciously and attempting to conceal something. Upon further observation, the officers found him trying to get on his motorcycle. He was stopped and questioned at the scene.
Police said a search of the area revealed that several parked vehicles had been opened. Stolen items were recovered from the vehicles. The suspect is believed to have opened nine cars and one pickup truck, taking various items from inside.
A search of Abdul Rahman Hussain and the motorcycle he attempted to ride uncovered suspected stolen items, including car and motorcycle keys, cash, mobile phones, and charging cables.
According to police, the suspect also discarded a cellophane bag believed to contain drugs when he was approached. The bag was retrieved in his presence and taken into custody.
The case is being investigated by the Hulhumale Police Station.
