Rasheed Carpentry and Construction (RCC) has been awarded the contract to complete the pending works of 'The Gardens' housing project in Hulhumalé, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) announced.

The project, which was initially launched in 2017 by Jaah Investments, a subsidiary of Jausa Construction, has remained incomplete for several years. The HDC took over the project in March and formally requested Jaah to vacate the site on 16 March.

The decision followed years of complaints from buyers who had purchased flats in the project at high prices but had not received possession. HDC issued a final notice to Jaah on 27 January, setting a 45-day deadline to resume and complete construction work.

After the deadline expired without progress, HDC terminated its agreement with Jaah, citing the need to resume construction and hand over the apartments to the buyers as soon as possible.

Jaah subsequently challenged the termination in the Civil Court. However, the court ruled that HDC could proceed with the takeover and denied Jaah’s request for an injunction to halt the process.

HDC stated that buyers will be updated in the coming days on the planned schedule for completing the remaining construction.
