The government has increased the monthly allowance for individuals who have memorised the Quran to MVR 4,000, fulfilling a pledge made by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
According to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, the revised allowance has been in effect since August. The previous allowance stood at MVR 2,000 per month.
A statement issued by the ministry on Sunday confirmed that the updated payment has been disbursed to eligible recipients. The adjustment is aimed at supporting and encouraging the memorisation of the Quran across the Maldives.
President Muizzu had made a commitment to double the allowance during his campaign. The implementation of the increase was confirmed by the ministry on Sunday evening.
The allowance is provided by the state as part of its broader religious initiatives managed under the Islamic Ministry.
