The Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has denied claims that the signing of agreements with recipients of 4,000 housing units in the second phase of Hulhumalé has been suspended.
In a press release on Sunday, the FDC stated that the process of signing agreements under the government’s social housing scheme is proceeding according to schedule.
According to the FDC, agreements are being signed between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on working days. The statement also clarified that any agreements currently on hold have been suspended at the request of the Ministry of Housing, due to concerns over eligibility. Individuals who are eligible are being informed and processed accordingly.
As of last week, the FDC has signed a total of 232 agreements. The corporation also confirmed efforts are ongoing to accelerate the process and increase the number of agreements signed daily.
The Ministry of Housing previously decided to review the flat recipient list issued by the former administration. However, it has since opted to proceed with allocating flats based on the original list.
According to the ministry, around 700 individuals are expected to be removed from the permanent list due to ineligibility. Minister of Housing Dr Abdulla Muththalib has stated that some applicants submitted false documents claiming residency in Malé while actually residing elsewhere. These individuals were included in the previous government’s allocation list.
The ministry has begun reallocating flats by removing those deemed ineligible and notifying them of the decision.
